Gratefulness

Gratefulness is an ebb and flow, a gentle rhythm that naturally pervades our senses at some moments, while at other moments it is a distant song we must journey through long, rocky paths to hear. When we’re on such a journey we are often distracted by whispers of doubt, causing us to wonder if we’re really hearing music at all.

Scarcity mindset isn’t merely the fixation on what we lack, but on who we aren’t- all the ways we fall short, and have yet to fully become who we are called to be. When we look to Jesus, this will become painfully apparent, and this awareness is necessary on our journey. But we shouldn’t, mustn’t stay seated in the overflow of self-loathing and helplessness this awareness will inevitably bring. When we choose gratefulness, whether through smooth or treacherous means, we are acknowledging that in Jesus, lack is not a hindrance but in fact a conduit through which we comprehend the gospel. Because when we know how deeply lacking we are, we are all the more astounded by the abundance of the love of Christ.

If the road to gratefulness is a long one for you this year, my heart goes out to you. I needed the reminder that even as I approach His feet with empty hands He is always there to fill me, “making intercession, when I have got nothing to say” (@bethanybarnard) May you be filled with this same hope, today and everyday.
